Gentle Fresh Starts for the New Year
How is your new year going so far?
A few weeks ago, we talked about the power of a gentle approach.
Today, let's talk about a few gentle fresh starts for the new year. Gentle fresh starts don't require us to join three gyms, identify 16 new resolutions, or start a new 30-day challenge (unless we want to).
Here are a few ideas.
We could…
Unsubscribe from a couple of sales emails from stores that we ordered from once, that now email us every single day.
Install Nomorobo to reduce spam calls
Close (or inquire about) open loops
Do something nice for our future selves— whether our future self of tomorrow or of December 2026
Block our calendars for some time off or to take a vacation
Update our calendar availability (if using an e-scheduling calendar tool)
Close some tabs
Consider focusing on one keystone habit (the one habit that makes all of the other things better)
Pick one cookbook to cook from for the next several weeks
Identify one friction point (in our life, our work, or our house) and one possible solution
Do a five minute tidy at the end of each day
Consider one thing we'd like to let go of in the new year
Identify a few key intentions or “big rocks” for the year ahead
Think about our favorite moments or memories from 2025, and how we might create more of them in 2026
What is the vibe of your 2026 so far? Are you sprinting into the new year, or gently easing forward?
However it's feeling so far, I hope that it's off to a good start.
