Goal-Setting Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

I recently attended a talk on goal-setting, and as the conversation unfolded, it became clear that there are many “best” (depending on who we ask) approaches to setting and tracking goals:

  • OKRs

  • KPIs

  • Kanban

  • Mural and Miro boards

  • Trello

  • Asana

  • Intuition

  • "Don’t set specific goals; let your actions be guided by your current reality"

  • And more…

The takeaway?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one person might not work for another.

In my own business, I prefer setting a “word of the year” (see the beautiful list you shared last week below—some fun ones on there!) along with a few key priorities or "big rocks."

Then, throughout the year, I continually ask myself: Are my actions aligned with these guiding themes?
