This year, we celebrate Labor Day in the midst of what has been termed by Anthony Klotz The Great Resignation. Per the US Department of Labor, 11.5 million people have quit their jobs as of June, and 41% are considering quitting. A study by Gallup found that 48% of people are actively searching for new opportunities. If it is currently a seller's market in real estate, it seems to be an employee's market in the workforce.

At a time when many are grappling with feelings of disconnection and isolation, surprise and delight can connect us to a shared sense of joy.

Dogmatic versus expansive thinking: which are we modeling?

While most of us don't try to be assholes, there are certain things we can do that take us down that road fairly quickly. 

Creating clarity up front is a helpful way to create more freedom for everyone involved down the line.

Setting boundaries and accommodating others before accommodating ourselves.

How do we stay awake, and also remain hopeful?

Understanding and agreement are not the same thing. We can work to understand someone else’s perspective. And still, this doesn’t mean that we will both agree.

We continue to find ourselves in strange times. These days, the opening question when reconnecting with friends is no longer, “How are you?,” but often, “Have you been V’d?”

The risk of following our own path is that sometimes, people won't get it.

Not feeling seen - especially in contexts where we desire this type of connection - can feel deeply painful.

In a way, we are all navigating a transition as we inch closer to emerging from lockdowns and quarantines and injustices and tremendous amounts of pain and suffering. The question we might consider is: how do we want to acknowledge this transition?

Sometimes, it can be helpful to start with the small stuff and expand from there.

How can we create more ease in our lives by creating a bit more clarity where things are squishy or ambiguous?
